There's really nothing quite like a great cup of coffee on a Monday morning--especially my very favorite local selection. Carabello Coffee is located in Newport, Kentucky, where they have a roasterie and craft coffee bar. I make sure to stop in a few times weekly and also keep some beans on hand for a much-needed java fix at my own convenience. What's perhaps most meaningful is how Emily and Justin Carabello have used their business as a means to create change, challenging the norms of fair trade and farmer-direct supply lines, ensuring that the people who grow their coffee can improve and expand their own lives. How inspiring is that? You should check out their story here and you should definitely try their coffee. Trust me, it's worth it!
Negative Space
Negative space is my second favorite tool to use in an image (light is the first.) It’s neutral, it’s soft, it’s yielding—a malleable presence that is simultaneously unassuming and important. It conveys a story with its oblivion, drawing your focus to the lines, shapes, and shadows that create an image. It isn’t a crashing of waves or an explosion of fireworks—it’s the quiet solitude that envelopes us every day. Creating your images by being aware of negative space is like allowing a living organism the space to breathe and grow.
September
These golden, russeted apples are a perfect study in everything I have come to expect from September.
Connection
The timelessness of black and white images and the softness of the mother-child connection. What could be more beautiful?
Sunday
Aiyanah and I have been working together for years now and each and every time, she inspires me to create images that are transcendent.
