The Ville
What do you do when you have five kids on Spring Break, not much in the way of discretionary funds, and a hankering for adventure? You visit one of the closest neighboring cities for a fun few days away. Louisville is only eighty-odd miles from our home, it has great museums, restaurants, and coffee shops, and it has a special place in my heart. In Louisville, I met and married my husband and gave birth to our first child.
Ostreatus
I love to eat. It's my biggest pleasure in life. Serving food. Cooking food. Planning food. Eating food. Even more, I love to eat beautiful things. I eat whole foods almost exclusively, as I've found I am so much more satisfied when I am full of healthy meats, fruits, and vegetables. Another favorite of mine is the mushroom--not really a vegetable, fruit, or meat but nevertheless a great addition to your kitchen.
Oyster mushrooms have an almost delicate quality to their texture. Something relentlessly soft and yielding. They are mild enough to really take on whatever flavor they are paired with, unlike their earthier cousins, creminis or shiitakes. And boy, are they beautiful. I like to treat them as a special addition, sautéing them gently, maybe with some garlic and white wine. They are also wonderful if added to a stir-fry near the end or slipped into a hot, brothy soup. Honestly, you can't go wrong.
Eggs
Is there anything more satisfying than a color study of dyed Easter eggs? If there is, I haven't found it. The arranging these for a mini-photo shoot has been the most peaceful part of the process!
Happy Easter
Wishing you a fantastic Easter weekend and a beautiful Spring!
Eleven
Somehow I think eleven is going to be a great year for this guy. I can't believe how much he has grown and what a great person he is turning out to be.
